About Us

Welcome to the St. James Parish Catholic Women’s League, Okotoks, Alberta

“The Big Rock” is an enormous glacial erratic – a rock transported far from its place of origin (Jasper National Park, AB) by glacial ice (about 12,000 years ago), located 7km west of the town of Okotoks. The 16,500-tonne (18,200-ton) quartzite boulder is the world’s largest known glacial erratic. Our town’s name, Okotoks, is derived from “o’kotok” [ˈokətokˈ], meaning “rock” in the Blackfoot language.

Jesus is the firm rock upon which we, as a Church community, build the kingdom of God here on earth. Mary was the one who made this possible in her willingness to open herself to the Holy Spirit and to allow herself to be an instrument of God’s grace when she accepted to be the mother of Jesus, the Son of God.

With a new year upon us and a new National theme, “Care for Our Common Home”, we invite the women of St. James Parish to come and join the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). To download the membership form, go to ‘Contact Us‘.

  • Due to COVID-19 virus, our general meetings are now held using the application Zoom for all members to join until further notice.

A Brief History of St. James CWL, Okotoks
St. James Parish Council first began in 1929.  It carried on for about 8 years but did not continue due to a lack of Catholics living in the community.  It was started up again and was commissioned on December 28, 1942.
